DESIGN

Apart from collaborative work, all design work is done in house, by husband and wife team and business owners Steve and Christina Roberts.  Designs are hand drawn, then re drawn and fine tuned in CAD files, before being 3D printed to check dimensions and feel. Prototypes are then produced to be tested with customers before finally being passed for submission to the Turnstyle family of products.  See Bespoke pages for our custom services.

We buy our leather from one of the best and oldest tanneries  in Tuscany, Italy who produce the finest, naturally vegetable tanned, full grain bridle leather.

The colouring in vegetable tanned leather is throughout the leather, not just a surface finish, the leather is still full of its natural oils and will develop a beautiful, rich patina the more it is used.

Veg tanned leather also repairs very well, knocks and scratches can be worked out with a boning tool or the back of a tea spoon, to bring back the oils to the surface and repair any superficial damage.

Our extensive range of leather handles are hand stitched by a team of highly skilled leather craftswomen. Years of training is invested to produce the level of craftsmanship used to produce Turnstyles leather hardware.

Turnstyle uses a host of manufacturing processes to produce the very best result for each design and product. These include CNC machining, turning, milling, forging, investment casting and extrusion. All carried out by highly skilled precision engineers.  Ready to go to our finishing department.

BRASS WORK finishing

Turnstyle uses high quality solid brass for all of our production metal work as this is the only material that will allow us to produce such a broad pallet of plated and patinated finishes. We currently produce three stocked plated finishes and five hand patinated “living“ finishes as well as many other custom finishes (see our Bespoke page). We also offer many of our designs in a Hammered finish, which will completely transform the design.

AMALFINE™

Turnstyles’ proprietary Amalfine™ composite material was what started the business, back in 1992 and has been fine tuned and improved ever since. More than a surface finish, our Amalfine options are each different composite, the finish runs throughout the product, making it a highly durable material which is also very tactile.

QUALITY – 8 PAIRS OF HANDS

Apart from the final quality control that every product goes through, every Turnstyle handle will go through at least eight pairs of hands during its creation. Each pair of hands and eyes are trained to inspect along the way, ensuring our quality is flawless and second to none. This is mostly why our complaints department is also our Managing Director Steve Roberts, as we receive very few and they are personally handled by him.
