Turnstyle Designs The Interior Designers Architects Furniture Makers Artisans Choice

Designed for ultimate space whilst entertaining, we talk to Andrew Speer, Founder, Cellar Maison, about their recent luxury wine storage solution featuring Turnstyle Designs. A residential project, based in the heart of Auckland, they have reimagined the interior with this captivating focal point.

THE BRIEF

“The owners of this prestige 1980s Auckland property wanted to transform the heart of their entertaining space into a dual-zone Wine Wall and Bar. The concept was to create a refined environment for wine tasting and dinner parties with friends and family, seamlessly combining display, preservation, and service.

The brief called for a professional wine wall with storage for approximately 400 bottles, stemware, and a fully integrated bar area. Longevity of opened bottles was an important consideration, which was achieved with a EuroCave preservation unit. The overall style direction was chic classic with a contemporary slant, drawing on rich, earthy tones and textures – antique brass handles and joinery detailing, marble and textured grey oak – brought together with warm lighting.”

“What I love about this project is how seamlessly the materials, finishes, and hardware come together. The Woven Amalfine design from Turnstyle Designs really anchors the scheme – it’s a detail you touch and see every time, and it brings a sense of understated luxury that resonates with the whole space.”

THE PROJECT

“The extensive refurbishment of the original 1980s house was led by architect Christopher Wood and executed by Future Trade. Cellar Maison designed and installed the internal cabinetry and wine wall/bar, working alongside premium partners to deliver an elegant, functional solution. EuroCave supplied the wine preservation unit, while Turnstyle Designs’ luxury hardware added the defining finishing touch.”

WHY TURNSTYLE DESIGNS?

“Hardware plays a crucial role in elevating the tactile and visual quality of joinery. For this project, Cellar Maison selected Turnstyle Designs’ Woven Amalfine handles in Fine Antique Brass. The decision was guided by the desire to introduce a subtle texture and depth that would complement the surrounding palette of natural materials. The Woven pattern carries a timeless elegance while maintaining a contemporary edge, perfectly reflecting the client’s style brief.”

“Our experience with Turnstyle Designs was exemplary. The team’s attention to detail, willingness to collaborate, and commitment to quality ensured a seamless integration into the wider design scheme. Their ability to provide hardware that is both luxurious and durable made them the natural choice for a project of this calibre.”
