Transforming tradition: A 1970's kitchen refurbishment
This latest project of architectural reimagination is the result of a collaboration between Bonsai Group and A7 Architecture design. We spoke to Bonsai Group to find out more on how they’ve breathed new life into this 1970’s kitchen extension.
THE BRIEF
“For this project, we worked closely with A7 Architecture to make our client’s vision a reality. The goal was to replace an outdated 1970s kitchen extension that marred the charm of a protected building and hindered the owners’ enjoyment of their mature garden. Faced with the daily challenge of cooking for a family of seven and a Bernedoodle, a redesign was initiated. The new design brought energy and initiative, positively transforming the property and enhancing the living experience. The space now seamlessly connects with raised lawns and efficiently integrates with the main house…”
“Emphasis was placed on circulation, honouring the building’s historic past with every passage. Expansive glazing floods the interior with natural light, fostering a visual connection with the historical context.
The meeting point of old and new, the former ‘cobblers residence’ features an entrance suited for the finest walking attire, highlighted by an inverted porch that provides a warm welcome to the home.”
THE PRODUCT
This creative project features Turnstyle Designs hand hammered cabinet knobs, displayed on the cupboard doors in this contemporary, open plan kitchen.
“We opted for burnished brass hardware to align with the property’s historic context, adding a touch of elegance that seamlessly integrates with the overall design narrative, while complementing the soft pink touch throughout the property.”
