Crafting Calm: Inside the Courtyard Room with Goddard Littlefair at this year's wow!house

We spoke to the team at Goddard Littlefair, the design studio behind the beautifully curated Courtyard Room at this year’s WOW!house in the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, about their interior masterpiece, they influence behind the project and how they found collaborating with Turnstyle Designs.

Could you tell us about the original brief for the Courtyard Room?

The brief was to create a central space within WOW!house that offered a moment to pause and a chance for visitors to recalibrate and take stock as they journeyed through the house. We wanted the room to evoke the feeling of being outdoors, even within an interior setting.

What inspired the overall design concept? Were there particular influences, materials, or moods you aimed to capture?

Our design was inspired by a recent project in Marbella, and more broadly, by the timeless elegance of an Andalusian garden. These gardens are classically laid out, symmetrical, and anchored by a central feature which led us to create a domed installation with layered planting to serve as the focal point. We wanted to explore the interplay between light and shade, using natural terracotta tones, biophilic design elements, and beautiful, dappled light to foster a sense of calm and connection to nature.

Moorish influences played a key role in the space. The patterns on wall coverings, the subtle curves of the accessories, and the lattice detailing all nod to this heritage. Turnstyle Designs’ hammered brass handles were the perfect complement: tactile, timeless, and beautifully crafted, they added a rich, handcrafted layer that grounded the space.

THE HARDWARE

How do you feel Turnstyle Designs’ door levers complemented the aesthetic of the space?

They worked seamlessly within the scheme. The hammered brass brought warmth and texture, while the quality of the finish added a sense of quiet luxury. They feel considered and deliberate and exactly the kind of detail that elevates a space from beautiful to memorable.

What kind of response has the room received so far? And has there been any feedback on the hardware details specifically?
The response has been incredibly positive. Visitors have commented on the calmness of the room, the sense of being transported elsewhere, and the way all the elements, from planting to lighting to materials, work in harmony. The hardware has definitely caught people’s attention; it’s one of those details people want to reach out and touch, which is always a good sign.

What made you choose this particular lever design for the concept?

We were looking for something that felt artisanal but still refined. The hammered texture spoke to the handcrafted elements in the space, while the brass finish tied in perfectly with the warm, earthy tones of the scheme. It felt like a natural choice, elegant without being overstated.

How did you find working with Turnstyle Designs?

An absolute pleasure. They completely understood the vision and were collaborative throughout the process. The quality of their work is exceptional, and they bring a real depth of understanding when it comes to materials, finish, and how hardware can quietly shape a space.
