Knightsbridge Family Residence – By Birch House

November 22, 2022

Can you tell us about the Project?

This Knightsbridge project was a designers dream to work on, with the finished home representing our perfect vision of a London family residence. We extensively renovated this 4-storey Grade-II listed home, replacing all finishes throughout, installing a new kitchen and bathrooms, as well as introducing new lighting design and bespoke fitted furniture, whilst preserving and restoring original features. Working hand in hand with an architect, we brought a full turnkey design service to this project – garden design, interior architecture and design, all the furnishings and artwork, with project management along the way. The result is a luxurious and warm interior with ample entertaining options in formal reception rooms as well as relaxed family spaces.

The Brief:

This Grade-II listed home was originally built in the 1850s and is located in London’s Knightsbridge neighbourhood. Having previously lived in rented accommodation, the client purchased this house as their first family home. The brief was to create an elegant interior that could stand up to a rumbustious toddler running around.

Did you work with any specific designers or collaborators?

We worked with Tom Howley on the kitchen.

Using Turnstyle’s ‘Made to Measure’ service, longer handles with extra legs were created for the cabinetry and appliances.

Which rooms do Turnstyle Designs feature?

We chose Turnstyle handles for the Study, the Principal Bedroom, the Hallway and the Kitchen.

We are huge fans of Turnstyle Designs. There is such a great range of gorgeous designs that really work with the aesthetic that we try to achieve in our projects.

In choosing the finishes and products for this project, our aim was to preserve the character of this period property whilst injecting some contemporary flair into the final look and feel. Fitted joinery was key to this project, as we wanted to ensure that we make the best use of all the available space in this bijou townhouse.

Dasha at Birch House really brought our house to life. She is a huge talent and her attention to detail was impressive. I couldn’t believe how quickly Birch House pulled everything together, and I absolutely love the finished rooms. Stunning! Overall, Birch House was incredibly creative and efficient and a real pleasure to work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend them to anyone.

A Brief History about Birch House Interior Design

Birch House is the brainchild of Dasha Popova and reflects her love of art, architecture and design. Having worked for an award-winning architectural interior design practice for a number for years, Dasha set-up Birch House in 2018. Since then we have had the pleasure of working on numerous projects in London and other parts of the UK.

Through our accessible and collaborative interior design service, we create authentic homes for private clients and distinctive show spaces for developers. Each project is individually tailored, and as a result the portfolio is diverse with an emphasis on impeccably designed interiors that are effortlessly functional and timeless. Current projects include a mews house in Knightsbridge, an apartment in Kensington and a 6,500 sq. ft. new build house in Beaconsfield.
