FAQs

Q - When will I receive my order?

A – The majority of our products are assembled and hand finished to order. We endeavour to keep component stock on the shelf at all times to enable us to react quickly to your needs. As our product range is so varied please contact us to discuss specific lead times prior to ordering.

Q - How consistent are your leather finishes?

A – Leather is a natural material and the finish can vary between hides. We attempt to colour match orders wherever possible.

Q - How consistent are your composite finishes?

A – All composite products are hand finished so a slight variation should be allowed for. Bone, Malt and Aqua should be ordered in batches to ensure consistency across products. Each piece is unique with its own individually crafted character and charm.

Q - What are the composite products made of?

A – All composite products are made from a secret blend of resins and core ingredients, including marble, graphite and pewter. Each piece is unique with its own individually crafted character and charm.

Q - Can I use my own leather?

A – In many instances your own leathers can be used, however please discuss this with us as there can be minimum order requirements or limitations based on the grade of leather you have. In all instances we will need a physical sample to run tests before we can confirm it is OK for use.

Q - How do I calculate euro profile cylinder lengths?

A - To calculate the optimum cylinder length - take the door thickness plus the thickness of the two escutcheons or back plates. Ideally the cylinder should be approximately 5mm longer than this. Download this sheet for further information.

Q – What is the backset dimension?

A – The backset of a lock or latch is the distance from the leading edge of the door to the centre line of the handle or keyway. Download this sheet for further information.

Q – My door is thicker than standard, can I use Turnstyle hardware?

A – Yes, lever handles will be supplied with standard fixing kits, however for thicker doors please order the relevant fixing kit for your door thickness. Download this sheet for further information.

Q - What is the lock centre dimension?

A - The lock centre dimension is the vertical measurement between the centre line of the handle follower and the centre point of the keyway or turn piece follower. Download these sheets for further information.

Q - How do I determine the handing of a cranked window handle?

A - Mortice espagnolette cranked window handles are handed as follows. Standing inside looking out, if the window is hinged on the right the handle should crank to the right. If hinged on the left the handle should crank to the left. If the window is top hung the handle can be left or right handed. Download this sheet for further information.

Q - How do I determine the handing of a hinged door?

A - There are many recognised methods for denoting the handing of hinged doors. The information is required for certain types of locking mechanisms, the application of single lever handles, split finish / design pairs of lever handles and levers on fineset back plates. Download this sheet for further information.

Q - Why are fineset back plates handed?

A – Fineset backplates are fitted in a bolt through configuration. The interior lever handle plate is pierced to accept the through bolts; the exterior plate does not have any visible fixings. Therefore we need to determine the handing to ensure the levers are built correctly.   Download this sheet for further information.

Q - What size are your lever handle back plates?

A – We offer four standard backplates – Rectangle, Rounded, Slimline and Fineset.   Download this sheet for further information.

Q - What size are your lever handle roses?

A – Our standard roses are either 52mm round or 52mm square, other sizes are readily available. For North American applications we also offer a pre bore rosette. Download this sheet for further information.

Q – What is a pre bore rose?

A – The pre bore system is commonly used in North America. If you are outside of America it is unlikely that you will require this type of rose. All lever designs that can be supplied on the pre bore system are available on the 52mm round or square roses.

Q – Will Turnstyle lever handles operate a multi-point locking system?

A - Yes, please specify when ordering so that we can adjust the assembly process. Lever handles for multipoint locking systems will be supplied unsprung.

Q - What fixings do I get with a pair of lever handles?

A – Lever handles are supplied as standard with 8 x 8 x 110mm spindle, M4 x 60mm through bolts, face fixing wood screws and fitting instructions. Mortice locks and latches are supplied separately – please contact sales to discuss.

Q - What are the different fixing configurations for your door pulls?

A - Door pulls can be fitted in three ways as follows (i) Single bolt through – the pull is on one side of the door only and is fixed with a bolt passing through the door from the rear. The bolt head may be covered with a push plate or recessed into the door face and filled. (ii) Single face fix – the pull is on one side of the door only and is fixed directly to the face using concealed fixings. (iii) Back to back pair – pull handles on both sides of the door, fitted with a concealed fixing. Download this sheet for further information.

Q - Can you customise products or manufacture to my design?

A – As well as our extensive range of catalogue products we also design and manufacture to client specification. This can be a variation of an existing design or complete from concept through to production. We are also able to offer a wide range of special order composite finishes and electro plated metal finishes.

Q - Can your hardware be used externally?

A – We do not recommend the use of leather or timber products externally, all items from the solid range and composite ranges (with the exception of bone finish) are suitable for external applications. The most wear resistant metal finish for external applications is Bright Chrome.

Q - Dark Bronze is a ‘living’ finish. What does this mean?

A – All applied bronze finishes wear as they are handled. This should be considered if specifying this finish in our solid range of products or in pieces that are directly and regularly handled (i.e. privacy turn piece). Over time the bronze finish will react with acids found in human skin and eventually the copper base tones will develop to create a patinated finish.

Q - What is a centre-to-centre measurement?

A – When referring to door pulls and furniture D handles the measurement quoted is centre to centre. This is the measurement between the centre of the fixing points. Please bear in mind it is not referring to the overall length.

Q - What is a push button privacy lever handle set?

A – Push button privacy lever handles are ideal for providing bedroom / WC privacy and offer a discreet alternative to the traditional privacy turn and release function. These sets are supplied with a 60mm backset tubular privacy latch. Pushing the button mounted on the interior rose locks the door. To unlock, simply depress the interior lever.

Q - Will your lever handles work with my existing locks and latches?

A – All Turnstyle lever handles are supplied with industry standard fixings. We also have a stock of alternative fixings for out of the ordinary applications. If in doubt please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Q – My cabinet doors / drawers are thicker than standard. Can I use Turnstyle furniture handles?

A – Yes, please specify door or drawer thickness when ordering furniture handles and we will ensure the correct length fixings are supplied.
